As we all know, the former producers of Protracker, Amiga Freelancers, have stopped all activities connected to the program. They are in these days very busy with their NEW project; APOLLON, which will (in a while) be available as a preview-verson. For some time, the idea was just to eliminate the whole source, and forget all about the program, because SO MANY people were complaining and bothering them with stupid and useless suggestions. In the end they also stopped answering the incoming letters. They just didn't have the time or capacity to write back to everyone . After a private Amiga Freelancers-meeting they agreed to certain points: 1. They would offer the source to -- Deadline --, and let THEM take over the whole business . . . . , and if they turned it down, well. . . 2. then they would spread the source with the wind few phonecalls later the situation was stable; Deadline -- will take over the development. The main persons behind this project will be: Kim Jensen Er lend Simonsen Geir Allsted .and of course some veterans like Anders Hamre (previous Amiga Fr. - member but a -NEW- Deadline-member! ) will do his best to get this as good as possible. We will take over where A.F. stopped. --- >The Protracker v2.0 is mainly sold in U.K (but also in other contries), so I guess you can expect a V2.1 or something one day in 1992 .. The late release is due to military service, schools, jobs, etc. If the programmers don't stagnate, Anders and I want to re-design and re-code the whole thing .... (We haven't descussed this yet though, hehe .. ) We want it to be more Dos/CLI-friendly if you know what I mean .. hell of .Header-menus (right-click-mouse ?? ) . . Windows and so on. . .. This will be a a job for the coders, so we can't promise anything in the first version, but we will do our best. The first release from us will probably be a larger version of the protracker you can see today, but what becomes a real problem is to find places and combinations on the keyboard for the new functions, and make them sensible. I is o.k when the HELP-key stands for help, and the DELETE- key for note-deletes, but when the newcoming functions like SAVE-ALL-SAMPLES' (which actually is a 'delicious' function) get to be ALT+Y, then this is a job for the superglue-brains out there !! Another thing that probably will lighten up the day for both Professional, GREAT (but nasty) program Multi-ripperV3.0(or higher) (coded by Erlend average, and inexperienced musicians, is that we will most probably merge the Simonsen) into Protracker. Well ... The 'Hunt-only' function will then of course arise to most of you as useless, because the huge program will now allocate and take over a big adress-area, and it will most probably 'load over' the module YOU are hunting for . But this is again not a problem at all, if you know your way around the ripper. With functions like LOAD and READ file, SCAN and READ SECTORS you will be able to rip almost any tune !! (while you're still in Protracker.) By the way ... With the newest version of multi-ripper (v2.9++++) (Not spread yet. (041091)), you are also able to rip NoisePACKED modules. .. (wooow! !! ). . . Enough of this !! As mentioned, we will try to design a NEW main-tracker system, but we can NOT promise and BETTER layout on the anything in the first new edition .. I bet YOU are sitting with dusins of ideas on how to make a better tracker, so don't hesitate .. let us hear from you! That will probably help us all! As long as your letters are of serious concerns, they will all be answered.
